OCT 3D eye scanning & eye imaging

OCT – (Optical Coherence Tomography) – Is available at all branches of Ashleigh Sight Care

  • Romsey, Portswood / Southampton, Bishops Waltham and Portsmouth.

This hospital grade technology provides a deeper understanding and early detection for any areas of concern of your long term eye health. It  is the most important procedure that has ever been included in Primary Eye Sight Care.

Ever looking to innovate, Ashleigh Sight Care was the first opticians practice in the UK to invest in an Ocular Coherence Tomography (OCT) scanner in 2008, making us one of the best-equipped and experienced opticians practices in Hampshire. Our clinicians are experts in the examination of eyes.

Of all of the tests available and all of the equipment used by advanced optometrists, the OCT eye scanner is by far the most important piece of equipment ever to be used. It is a revolutionary piece of technology that uses light waves to unprecedentedly capture detailed 4D images of the normally-hidden layers beneath the retina. No X-rays or other potentially damaging procedures are involved. The process is painless and non-invasive and the images enable our optometrists to identify the slightest abnormalities in your eyes and monitor changes over time. We recommend an eye scan as a part of every sight test and will be happy to show you the images and talk you through the findings so that you can see what is happening in your eyes and know about your eye health.

Many serious eye diseases such as glaucoma, macular degeneration and early diabetic retinopathy are ‘silent’ and don’t display visible symptoms until they’ve already damaged your eyesight. However, our OCT scanners allows us to pinpoint the very first signs of these vision-threatening conditions and advise treatment before its too late. Importantly, if you are over 40 or have a family history of macular degeneration or glaucoma, we would highly recommend you to have regular OCT eye scans, since the sooner early signs of change are spotted the more vision can be preserved .

Our local eye consultant says that no eye examination can be considered complete until an OCT eye examination is performed on both eyes at every eye examination, since much of the eye is hidden from standard examination and surface viewing. At our practices, we will encourage everyone to have an eye scan at every sight and eye test, since that will allow us to see potentially hidden eye problems that cannot be see with standard equipment.

At Ashleigh Sight Care we are committed to ensuring the long term health of your eyes and the investment to identify any areas of concern quickly. The great advantage of OCT is that it can diagnose eye health problems which, in their early stages, have no symptoms, including Glaucoma, Macular Degeneration and Diabetes.
